Izramith Ezmi is many things a member of the feared, all-female Hedron guards, a war veteran recently returned from a pointless and bloody mission, and impatient, angry and above all, lonely. No crawling in mud, no shoot-outs, no mangled bodies and blood-drenched soil. And meanwhile, she can try to find her uncle.
Except he isn't there, and the job isn't simple. Izramith and her team discover evidence of an extensive spying ring that threatens the entire city.
Postponing the wedding would be an admission of defeat, so it's time for desperate measures. Izramith leads a small team in what has to go down as the most hare-brained mission to ever be undertaken in the universe. Much is at stake peace, the lives of her uncle and her nephew, and her own.

I have read a couple of this author's books in the series and keep coming back to follow up on what will happen next. The "worlds" and settings she imagines are somewhat hard to keep straight but if you persevere through the first book it gets easier to figure out what is going on.Product details

I enjoyed this book and had to get the others in the series!
I give Soldier's Duty a 4. The author has a good plot line, but there are so many different "people" groups in the series that the reader gets confused. Characters are not as well developed as I expect in a novel, series, of this length. There are a number of typos and extra words in the text that a final edit should have caught.
Interesting combination of national and interplanetary culture wars. The main character, Izramith, is well developed though I would have liked to have seen more "badass" behavior from her to draw a greater contrast with the person she morphs into. Also some food for thought in how we judge and condemn people that are different.

I'm so glad I found Patty Jansen! I'm really enjoying the Aghyrians series and the Ambassador series. Hope to see more from this universe.
This book introduces new characters, new plot elements, and interesting twists, but is mainly important for exposition and explanation of loose ends in the first book of the series. Well written and a pleasant read, but I hope the next book of the series advances the plot more.
Being a highly disciplined soldier was all she thought life offered her. However once she returned from her duties in another worlds devastating war her duties as airport guard no longer seemed so great. After difficulties adjusting back to her old life she had to make a decision about the rest of her life. Choosing a path that even her highest superior advises against she begins a journey that will lead her to a into the greatest future imaginable. A great ending to this trilogy and a must read for fans of this author!
